Come Fly With Me

To infinity and beyond
New Worlds

I spent the last few days in Austin, Texas at the New World conference. What a tremendous effort put together by all the players in the space industry I must say. Everything from the presentation to the after party, to the live art was so innovative and mesmerizing, I spent every waking moment in Awe.

Big thanks to Daniel Gaspersz for inviting me, what a spontaneous idea, and a great one!
Our little DU reunion was more than nostalgic, but productive too!

Before I get started with all the fruitfulness from this trip, I need to pay tribute to all the food in Texas, like y'all serious ? how does one consume so much meat!

Day one I had this amazing 20 oz aged steak, what a treat to have after eating ramen and KD all day everyday back in vegas.

The seasoned fat blending into the medium rare beef melting in your mouth is one of those moments in life you savor .... and 20 oz!! True texas style this has been one of the best meals ever.

Then comes the mexican food!

This was probably the only meal I had there that was the right portion.... everything else is just extra sized...even the burgers or fast food there, seriously don't mess with texas.

I didn't bother to take pictures of the burger itself, because you can't really tell the size from just the picture.

But if you are looking for a fast food place that's worth your money, its the WattaBurger.

I totally couldn't move for 4 hours after , but so worth it!

Finally its the main deal, Texas BBQ

I  have to say, It was my fault not knowing how these things worked, but when the guy at the counter asked me what I wanted for meat, I told him one of each....he proceeded to give me a pound of sausage, a pound of ribs, and a pound of briskets ... Above shows my left overs (ridiculous)

Anyways onto the main event!

The conference was all about colonizing space, from the economical sense of creating a permanent lunar base, to the incremental steps we must take in order to achieve of goals of colonizing Mars.

My entire trip was built on one goal, I wanted to find out how as a non American citizen can i contribute to the space effort.

There is where I met conceptual artist Bryan Versteeg, you can see his work here . He does all the concepts of Mars one as well as high frontier styled rotational space colony concepts.

Through him I was able to finally solidify a direction in which I can pursue.

I am saying this with the most excitement I possibly can on text! Super proud to say LumiereVR will be launching SpaceVR Tours using Bryan's Concepts, we will hopefully be working with various People in the VR space as well as Deep Space Industries over the next little while, creating an experience that is realistic and inspiring to get the public excited about the final frontier.

Above is a picture of Bryan giving his presentation on his concepts, every piece is so detailed and well researched, for those of you who are engineering geeks and physics nerd! Try to find a flaw in his concepts, I bet you can't!

I am excited to be working on two concepts,

the first one is a Mars Settlement including a fully functioning green house and a beautiful interior,

The coolest part about this experience besides being able to see all of Mars' terrain from the clear windows of the greenhouse, but to experience what 38% gravity feels like as you fly off into the air with just a tiny bit of acceleration.

the second concept is the Kalpana, or High Frontier concept of a space colony that rotates at 4 rpm to simulate artificial gravity( you may remember from the end of interstellar).

It comes with a fully functioning agriculture system, real estate design, as well as sports fields. The most fascinating part here is the physics. Spinning at 40 km/hr when you throw a ball in one direction, it might appear behind you ! Think about it!

Here is the basic concept
done in drawing, you can imagine the fun/pain you will have
learning how to play basketball again or throw a foot ball

another cool thing here would be biking down the lane at a speed that allows you to defy gravity and literally fly over all the structures bellow.

I believe this VR experience will allow people to both train and adjust to the potential motion sickness that comes from the rotational effect.

Anyways I was super exhausted after the weekend, one of the most productive weekends in terms of learning though! Everything was so well presented, and so astounding to see the amount of effort being put into this cause!

Also got to see some really cool drones!

The Millennium Falcon was awesome

I have to say after Vegas I didn't think I'd be impressed with another hotel, but the hilton was quite unique, with its colosseum like design and awesome bar downstairs!

Anyways after a long and exhausting weekend I was glad to have Breakfast in Bed before flying home back to vegas!

It has been wonderful, so long Austin!

All the super cool live art going on at the after party, I really wish  i could have whatever these artists were on that night, so much craziness and creativity!

But I guess I had my fun entertaining kids with VR Demos! haha

Beautiful Austin
